Ithaca Interaction Therapy specializes in developing the social communication skills (social skills) that allow children, teens, and adults access to school, career, workplace, friendship, and community. Social communication (also known as social skills or social language) involves recognizing the way our actions affect the thoughts and feelings of others, how they respond to us, how we react, and how others affect our thoughts and feelings. Difficulty understanding the needs and intentions of others can prevent people from enjoying the academic success, employment, and friendships of which they are capable. This difficulty can affect every aspect of an individual's life, including organization, planning, timeliness, mood/affect, focus, starting and keeping relationships, paying bills, living with a roommate, initiating change, the ability to communicate for multiple purposes, and more.
