The Advocacy Center (formerly the Task Force for Battered Women/Child Sexual Abuse Project) provides supportive services to adults and teens who have been or are in abusive relationships, children who have been exposed to domestic violence, youth and adults who have been sexually abused, sexually assaulted, sexually harassed or raped, their non-offending family members and friends, and adult survivors of child sexual abuse. The Advocacy Center provides:
  • 24-hour hotline
  • confidential emergency shelter
  • legal advocacy
  • accompany to services, such as hospital or law enforcement
  • emotional support
  • support and empowerment groups
  • information and referral
  • prevention education and risk reduction education
  • professional and community training
DONATIONS
  • Adult Clothing: take to Trader K's; the Advocacy Center receives credit for the clothing's value which its clients can use
  • Children's Clothing: take to Mama Goose; the Advocacy Center receives credit for the clothing's value which its clients can use for their clothing needs
  • Other Donations: diapers, new toiletry items, new or very gently used toys, new or very gently used household linens (towels and bed sheets),bus passes, gift cards, cash
  • Donations for holiday gifts for families living in the shelter and for other agency clients; call the Client Services Director @ 277-3203.
  • Used Cell Phones: drop off at the United Way (313 North Aurora Street, (607) 272-6286) or Verizon (downtown Ithaca, East Buffalo and North Tioga Streets)

The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a not-for-profit membership organization with a mission of eradicating domestic violence and ensuring effective and appropriate services to victims of domestic violence.

The Coalition sponsors the following projects:
  • technical assistance and support to domestic violence service providers
  • technical assistance and protocol development assistance for probation departments statewide
  • training and conferences
  • outreach and community education
  • assistance and consultation in developing public policy and strategies for preventing domestic violence
  • newsletter with information on domestic violence issues
  • resource library
  • community coordination and protocol development assistance

The DOORS program is a rehabilitation program for men, eighteen years of age or older, who have used violence or other abusive methods to control their partners. The program's main goals are to teach abusers to take responsibility for their behavior and learn positive alternatives.

The Forensics program conducts mental health evaluations for the Tompkins County court system. This program also provides counseling and risk assessment to inmates of the Tompkins County Jail. The Sexual Offender Treatment Program, Commitment to Change, Thinking for a Change, Doors (Domestic Offender Re-education) and services to the Day Reporting Center are also provided.

The Mental Health Clinic provides outpatient counseling and community mental health services. Programs within the clinic are: Intake and Assessment, Adult Services, Children and Youth Clinic, Emergency Outreach Services and Forensic Services. Mental health information and education as well as diagnostic and evaluation services are available.
