Bridges For Youth and Families

Bridges for Youth and Families, a NYS-certified Interim Family Program, provides emergency services to runaway, homeless and unaccompanied youth.
Focused on runaway prevention and reunification, Bridges staff works with young people who:
  • are thinking of leaving home or running away
  • have left home or run away
  • are homeless and want to reunite with their families

Youth living away from parents or legal guardian may also be eligible for services
Services for youth up to age 21 include:
  • family mediation
  • advocacy
  • community outreach and education
  • intensive case management
  • short-term solution-focused counseling
  • transportation
  • anger management and life skills groups
  • social and recreational activities

Bridges may also provide short-term emergency shelter for youth under 18.

The Youth Outreach Program assists homeless and transient youth and young adults, many of whom have dropped out of school, to move from a state of dependence to self-sufficiency.
Participants can receive:
  • outreach services
  • assistance locating safe housing
  • intensive case-management
  • independent living skills training
  • crisis management
  • parenting skills training
These youths can also participate in paid apprenticeships that are intended to help them gain the workplace skills necessary to secure unsubsidized work. The Housing Scholarship Program (a transitional living program within the Youth Outreach Program) is for homeless and transient youth and young adults. Participants are housed in scattered site apartments and their rent and utilities are paid for 12-18 months. Program services and support are offered to help households:
  • develop the skills necessary to maintain stable housing
  • identify and pursue an educational and career pathway that will provide a livable wage
  • become productive members of our community
