Child Care Resource and Referral provides many services to parents and child care providers in Tompkins County, including referrals to child care, information and technical assistance to start new child care businesses, support for existing day care providers and programs, short term financial assistance for parents with child care expenses, and child care advocacy. The "Warm Line" phone service answers questions about child behavior for parents and providers. The program office also offers resources such as a lending library of books and videos on child development, curriculum, and child care planning.

The Child Development Council promotes the healthy development of children and families at home, in child care and in the community by providing resources, support services and information and referrals to parents, child care providers and the community. The Council also advocates for the continuous improvement of healthy child development through activism and community education. To make a complaint about a local day care provider, call the Child Development Council. If the complaint involves abuse/neglect, call the Child Abuse & Maltreatment Reporting Center, (800) 342-3720. Resources for clients of the agency include clothing for male and female children, support services, and information and referrals for parents, child care providers and the community. Short term financial assistance for parents with child care expenses, child care advocacy, and referrals to child care providers.

Family Support and Home and Community Based Services are available to individuals with developmental disabilities. Family Support Coordinators assist families in determining what type of service would be most appropriate for their needs. Respite services to provide a break for care providers are reimbursed based on a sliding fee scale. Families may choose their own worker or be given a list of qualified individuals willing to provide service. The Home and Community Based Services Waiver provides funding for Day Habilitation, Residential Habilitation and Hourly Respite. Trained providers are assigned to each individual to assist them in becoming more independent and active in their community.

One-to-One Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) provides mentoring for children ages six through 14.
"Bigs" spend time each week with their "Littles," to help them discover their strengths, develop social skills and explore the opportunities for children in Tompkins County.

Eligible children have unmet needs for individual adult support and attention. There are children waiting to be matched with a "Big." One-to-One weekend programs run during the fall and spring semesters. Saturday programs provide activities for both children who have adult mentors and those on the waiting list.

KidsPeace - Residential Programs

KidsPeace provides a number of specialized residential treatment options for children from age 6 to 17 with psychological and behavioral disorders. - Dual Diagnosis Residential Program offers 90-day Therapeutic Residential Treatment for males and females with a drug and/or alcohol and mental health diagnosis. - Residential Treatment provides 24-hour psychiatric care for youth. - Emergency Group Care Program offers crisis stabilization services for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral and social adaptation problems. Serves males and females ages 10 to 18 who cannot be placed in outpatient community programs. - Intensive Residential Treatment Program provides 24-hour psychiatric care for clients requiring more intensive clinical, recreational and educational services, and supervision than standard residential treatment can provide. - Community Residential Program offers Therapeutic Residential services in a community setting for males ages 9 to 17. - KidsHope Specialized Residential Treatment Program provides structured 24-hour clinical, educational and psychiatric care for low-functioning males ages 12 to 17 with behavioral disorders. - Sex Offender Specialized Residential Program serves adolescent males ages 12 to 18 with sexual issues.
